Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) recently received delivery of 6 new electrically operated rubber tyred gantry cranes (eRTGC) from Sany Group. This is the first part of the order for 15 new eRTGCs that JNPT had placed. The new RTGCs will help in improving the container handling in the yard and supporting the vessel operation in improving the terminal productivity. There will be indirect job generation in the associated EXIM trade due to the induction of these new eRTGCs, as there will be requirement of additional tractor trailer drivers, surveyors, vessel/ shipping agents, Custom House agents etc.

JNPT is constantly introducing new technology to maintain its premier position in the industry. “I am very happy that Sany Group has delivered the eRTGCs on time and will help JNPT continue with uninterrupted and efficient operations,” stated Anil Diggikar, Chairman, JNPT.

“With the augmentation of these eRTGCs, 6 of our old RTGCs will be replaced. Once we receive the remaining 9 eRTGCs the fleet strength of RTGCs in JNPCT will rise to 27. This will help in increasing efficiency to save time and cost for trade,” Neeraj Bansal, Deputy Chairman, JNPT.

The neweRTGCs are electrically powered which is cost economical with minimal maintenance and is environment friendly, as against the conventional diesel engine RTGCs. These new eRTGCs will have 2-twin twenty container handling mechanism with 50MT capacity under spreader (as against 40MT with single lift of existing RTGCs).
