Can you share any recent innovations in construction equipment filters?
To continuously innovate while achieving optimal results, we rely on our global network of researchers, universities, and scientific institutions. The MANN+HUMMEL team comprises nearly 1100 research and development engineers spread across 35 development locations, contributing to a portfolio of over 4500 patents and applications in the field of filtration.
Recent advancements encompass self-cleaning filtration systems, a modular fuel system with an integrated e-pump, and digitalization facilitated by advanced active monitoring, among others. An example is our new WAVELOCK bayonet lock. Spin-on oil filters from MANN+HUMMEL are a proven technology, offering optimal protection. However, the filter change of conventional spin-on filters is time-consuming and only possible with a strap wrench or a comparable special tool. The bayonet lock developed by MANN+HUMMEL for spin-on filters sets new standards for easy servicing and reduction of service costs. The patented bayonet connection is the interface between spin-on filter and filter head. The unique design enables copy protection and prevents the use of inferior filters. Increased operational reliability can also be achieved due to radial seals between the dirty and clean sides of the filter.
Another notable innovation is the MANN+HUMMEL self-cleaning air filter - ENTARON XR - with Impulse Cleaning Technology. This technology is ideal for agriculture and construction machines with extreme dust load and continuous or high periods of use like underground mining, mining dump trucks, tractors and military applications. The ENTARON XR removes the need for machine operators to carry out elaborate and time‑consuming filter changes in the field. This is because the MANN+HUMMEL air cleaner cleans itself. Unplanned or preventive manual cleaning is no longer necessary, and users are not exposed to harmful dust particles.

What trends do you observe in the market for construction equipment filters?
MANN+HUMMEL constantly
improves our services, products and technologies to fulfill all our customer’s needs and demands. This has been and will be one of the key drivers or our continuous success.
MANN+HUMMEL recognizes the need for agility in fulfil demands in regional/local markets. We leverage the benefits of centralized manufacturing hubs as well as local investments to be competitive in the marketplace. Significant localization of manufacturing and warehousing for various products and segments are in focus. For example: construction, farming, industrial, on-road and off-road segments, and more. Expansion projects for manufacturing plants and warehouse facilities also in pipeline aligned to the growth curve expected in India.
We see different trends that are in demand at the same time and are becoming increasingly important:
• Increasing filtration efficiencies and longer service intervals to increase protection and reduce downtime: We serve that demand through the use of new synthetic and glass fiber filter media
• Reliable water separation to protect fuel injection systems; our innovative three-stage separation technology is a leading solution
• Easy and clean service solutions; such as our Wavelock with patented bayonet locking mechanism
• Module technology: functional integration from simple spin-on filters to liquid filter modules
• Digitalization: e.g. constant filter monitoring for demand driven service
• Filtration solutions for new energy drive trains like BEV, Fuel cells and H2 ICEs
What future developments or advancements do you foresee in construction equipment filter technology?
Being a leader in filtration means being a leader in innovation, technology and digitalization. At MANN+HUMMEL, we draw on our deep understanding of filtration to develop innovative and intelligent filtration solutions. Today, automation drives many processes and operations which are not manageable without the help of algorithms. Filter monitoring in construction equipment reduces unnecessary maintenance costs thanks to dynamically calculated service intervals. Powerful tools, such as our RUL algorithm (Remaining Useful Life) for filter life prediction, monitor equipment operation and environmental conditions to continuously calculate the maximum time that a filter can safely and effectively protect a system without compromising performance.
