Tell us something about Yanmar’s presence in India.

Yanmar is present in India since early 2000 with many of the engines from Japan plant working in construction segment as part of imported equipment. Yanmar realising the potential of India as a large manufacturing hub for the global industry and a truly fast developing economy, took a leap forward to establish own production facility in the year 2021. Yanmar Engine Manufacturing India Pvt Ltd (YEMI) is the fourth engine manufacturing plant of Yanmar group, Japan for TNV series vertical water-cooled diesel engines.  The production of off-highway application diesel engines of sub 36kW power range started in 2022 -23 from Ponneri plant north of Chennai.  Since then, Yanmar India unit is steadily evolving to be a formidable player in the agri and construction segment.  The plant currently manufactures 1.3 / 1.6 / 2.2 / 3.3 ltr capacity engines 82 / 88 / 98 mm bore size confirming to Trem 3A and BS3-CEV emission norms prevailing in India as of today. Yanmar India plant is equipped with the same quality systems and facility matching to Japan. Yanmar is one of the very few players globally with technology to manufacture its own fuel system with fuel system components from Kinomoto plant in Japan.

Yanmar offers compact, lightweight, versatile engine which are quiet, durable and provide value for money - on all products and services offered to end customers. Yanmar engine has various options of sump, PTO drives, fan, flywheel and housing and a versatile fuel system with torque and power changes which makes it very easily adoptable for a new application. Yanmar Engines in India are based on proven DI combustion technology with in-built features for noiseless operation for entire range. Yanmar provides true OEM delight for packaging without major changes to hood or chassis for which the application is intended for.

Yanmar as an organisation offers total solution instead of products, has capability to upgrade the engines to meet India emission norms of BS5- CEV (India off- highway emission) for off high way industry beyond the year 2025. Yanmar team has the expertise to understand, digest and conceptualise customer requirement leading to end product - within short period of time. Can you provide details on the emission’s standard compliance for your engines?

Yanmar Engines manufactured by Japan for global market can meet stringent emission norms of EU Stage V / Euro 6D for off-highway applications.  Yanmar Engine Manufacturing India currently manufactures Trem 3A and BS3-CEV for India Off highway applications and aligned with Indian regulation requirements prevailing at the moment.  We shall commence manufacturing of Tier4 F engines (export) from June 2024 and BS5- CEV (India off- highway emission) from H2 of FY 2025 onwards. Yanmar engines are ready for meeting upcoming emission norms for India.

What are the key performance specifications of your engines? (e.g., horsepower, torque, fuel efficiency)

Yanmar engines are light weight, compact and durable and provide best power to weight ratio with longer life. Yanmar engines use Direct Injection Technology which provides best in class Fuel consumption.

How do your engines fare in terms of reliability and durability under rugged construction site conditions? What measures do you take to ensure optimal performance and longevity of your engines?

Yanmar Engines are known for durability and consistent performance under severe operating conditions of application, ambient and altitude. Engines are subjected to rigorous in-house durability and endurance trials both for performance and emission before they are offered as proto to OEMs.

Can your engines be customized to meet specific requirements of construction equipment manufacturers?

Yanmar engines offer versatility in terms of packaging by providing application end options for sump, flywheel, housing, fan, PTO drives, integrated module for DOC, DPF and silencer. These can be adopted to suit constant and variable speed applications such as material handling equipment, construction and agricultural machinery.

What maintenance procedures are recommended for your engines in construction equipment applications?

Yanmar engine maintenance procedures are user friendly and details in manuals given with the engine provides handling scheduled maintenance of lubricants, filters etc. Yanmar wide global network provides after-market support for scheduled maintenance as well as complaint handling for maximum productivity.

What initiatives or technologies do you employ to reduce emissions and improve fuel efficiency?

Yanmar engines are based on advanced Japanese technology and control emissions with high pressure fuel injection system, unique combustion design, in-house developed DPF technology with both in and out parameters monitored – while competition monitors only inlet temperatures.

Are there any upcoming developments or innovations in engine technology for construction equipment that your company is working on?

Yanmar Engine offers the most compact DPF in the category of 19 to 55 kw power range and has a distinct advantage of minimal changes to equipment hood to accommodate upgraded engine.

How do you envision the future of engines in construction equipment evolving in terms of efficiency, sustainability, and performance?

With the introduction of stringent emission norms in India from 2025 across all applications of construction equipment, engine manufacturers will have to switch over to common rail technology with fuel pump end pressures reaching 1600 bar and above. Yanmar offers the most compact engine in the segment and can meet the noise requirements of 75dB without major changes to base engine design. The DPF system offered by Yanmar has an unmatched service guarantee of 5000 hours minimum unmatched by competition.
