Innovation and sustainability are at the core of our design philosophy
Amit Bansal
Director – Sales & Marketing, Building Construction Products (BCP) Division, Caterpillar India
What is your major focus for this year’s bauma CONEXPO 2024?
Our focus at bauma CONEXPO is to:
• Showcase Caterpillar’s commitment to customer support through comprehensive service and product solutions with the range of Cat and other Caterpillar brand equipment - highlight latest offerings, aftermarket services and financial solutions that differentiate us from our competitors
• Highlight technology and solutions designed to improve productivity, efficiency, safety, and profitability to the customers of Indian construction equipment industry
How are you addressing skilling initiatives to improve efficiency and reduce project time?
We focus on both internal and external skilling initiatives. Internally, we prioritize training of dealer manpower, ensuring they are updated on the latest machine technologies and service protocols. This
equips them to provide customers with the best possible service.
Externally, we offer certified operator training programs through our dealers. These programs empower operators to maximize machine utility and productivity. By enhancing the skills of both our workforce and customer operators, we ensure the best outcomes for every project.
What regulatory or policy changes do you anticipate that could impact the business?
Emission norms are set to change in January, requiring all wheeled products to comply with Stage V emission standards. We are ready for this transition. Our products like the Hindustan 2021 F and the Cat 424 Backhoe loader are already BS V compliant, and we have integrated these standards across our product line.
What is your outlook for 2025 compared to 2024?
The outlook is highly optimistic. As the most populous country and one of the fastest-growing economies, India’s growth is intrinsically tied to its construction sector. Infrastructure development underpins this growth, and as construction expands, so will the demand for equipment, machinery, and associated industries. We are well-positioned to support our customers with comprehensive product solutions and offerings.
Which markets are you targeting in addition to India?
In India, our facilities not only cater to domestic demands but also export products to several other countries. For example, our Large Mining Trucks and other products are sent to countries with specific requirements, showcasing our global capabilities and reach.
Electric machines are making significant inroads into the market. How do you view this trend?
Electric machinery is in an exploratory phase. The biggest challenge lies in infrastructure; many of our customers operate in areas without reliable access to electricity for charging. This makes widespread adoption challenging at present.
That said, we are closely monitoring market trends and have already developed battery-powered machines. As infrastructure evolves, we will introduce products that meet market needs while leveraging our technological expertise.
What is Caterpillar’s roadmap for the next five years?
Our roadmap aligns with market momentum. While we have the products needed to meet current demand, we remain committed, and ready to adapt and introduce new offerings to meet our customer requirements. Our focus on sustainability, efficiency, and customer-centric solutions ensures that we remain at the forefront of the industry.
