Our R&D team is constantly working on introducing solutions that will add value to our customers.
Telematics will indeed bring a lot of benefits to fleet owners and equipment operators. One will be able to optimize the utilization of the machine, enhance productivity and improve the overall output, says Wilfried Theissen, Managing Director, Putzmeister India. Excerpts from the interview
Could you spell out the vision of Putzmeister in imbibing and leveraging the advantages of digital platforms?
Putzmeister is always striving to deliver the most ideal solutions to our customers to help them get better productivity and improve their profitability. Our fully automatic batching plants, our human machine interface enabled pumps, simulator-based training for our shotcreting equipment are just a few examples of technology driven solutions we offer.
The Putzmeister Group invests 5% of turnover on R&D. Our teams both here and in Aichtal, Germany are working on different projects with a focus on adding value to our customers. In India, we are introducing advanced
telematics solutions, Putzmeister Machine Cockpit, to our range of pumps this year.
What is the impact of big data analytics and telematics on the nature of repair and maintenance services?
In a largely price driven market some customers don’t fully appreciate the value that regular service and maintenance can add to their equipment and their project delivery. With the introduction of telematics, we believe the market will see a shift to not just more regular maintenance but preventive maintenance. The Putzmeister Machine Cockpit will notify customers of critical machine conditions and help identify and diagnose faults. Customers will get alerts for maintenance and spare parts replacement schedules. These measures will help preserve the value of the machine and
prevent downtimes.
How these technologies help enhancing the productivity thereby lowering the TCO?
Customers will get key figures like delivery rate, machine use and fuel consumption. This will help reduce unproductive time, wear and fuel consumption and optimize the output of the machine. Critical machine conditions will help identifying faults and implementing necessary measures. All of this will help enhance machine productivity and lower TCO over time.
What is your take on data privacy and security?
Putzmeister telematics solutions will store data on secure servers and we will have the necessary measure in place to prevent any such issues. Installation costs for these solutions will not be significantly high, especially when compared to the advantage it will bring customers in terms of enhancing the productivity of their machines.
How positively these technologies have been redefining the construction / infrastructure and mining space?
Telematics will indeed bring a lot of benefits to fleet owners and equipment operators. One will be able to optimize the utilization of the machine, enhance productivity and improve the overall output. We expect to see increased adoption of such technologies and further enhancements in the offering.
