What are your views on the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) considering to defer implementation of BS-IV emission norms for construction equipment vehicles?

The Ministry has already deferred implementation of BS-IV emission norms by 6 months. This will give some relief to the CE industry as critical time has been lost due to the Covid Crisis.

Labor movement and supply chain disruption was considered a major hindrance to project execution? What steps have you taken to overcome these challenges?

We source all our components from our Vendors who are typically from the MSME sector, and we always treat them as partners and would continue to do so during the Covid 19 phase and will be doing everything from our side to ensure that they come of this challenge and be a part of our supply chain.

As construction activities have resumed, what initiatives have OEMs taken to speed up projects?

We are closely monitoring the demand situation. As of now we have adequate inventory to meet customer demand, and as and when the demand picks up, we are ready to cater to the requirement. However there seem to be challenges at jobsites with our customers because of non-availability of skilled and unskilled workers who have already left the jobsites. So, we anticipate shortage of workforce at jobsites in the coming months. The onset of monsoon could also dampen the demand further.

What kind of support do you expect from the government to boost the road equipment sector in the country?

Rebooting the activities in the Infra sector and more so in the road sector is critical for the economy as they provide immediate jobs for all the immigrant workers who have gone back but will be back after some months. This industry can provide lot of employment specially in the road sector. We expect the road construction activity to pickup pace from end of August or early September onwards, once the monsoon tapers off and the immigrant workers are back at the jobsites. There are enough projects which are already awarded and contracts available with the contractors. Only the work needs to get going on these projects which will automatically revive the economy. Definitely the plan of the government of India to award enough jobs under the infrastructure pipeline would help this sector and the economy.

Could you tell us about the different schemes initiated by the government to boost the construction activities in the country?

For the healthy growth of the road sector, we need to get more long-term investments at low interest rates for the infrastructure like roads which will help this sector as we definitely need more investment to come from outside, for the government to fulfil its ambitions under the national infrastructure pipeline.

Second is – how we are able to improve the quality of the final product what we deliver to the end customer – who are the road users. So here there is a lot of scope for the government and the contractors and the equipment manufacturers to take several steps to achieve these goals so that Indian roads meet world-class standards.
