What are your views on India as a global construction equipment manufacturing hub?

The central government’s initiative titled ‘Make in India’ and the current market trends related to the existing OEMs in India make the possibility of India becoming a global manufacturing hub for construction equipment very real. With the Vision plan 2030 by ICEMA on the Construction equipment industry, India is poised to pip other countries to become the second largest supplier other than China. Brands around the world have been using China as their manufacturing hub, dubbed the de-facto factory of the world for manufacturing. This trend has taken a hit during the pandemic period as ASEAN companies/brands have started investing in manufacturing facilities in India with the support of DPIIT (Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade). To support this national goal Schwing Stetter India is ready with our newly launched Global Manufacturing Hub (GmH), which is now fully operational at Cheyyar, Kanchipuram.

Give us details about your manufacturing facilities in India?

Schwing Stetter India started our manufacturing activities in India since 1998.The first integrated works was inaugurated in 2001 in SIPCOT, Irungattukottai, Tamil Nadu. We unlocked even more achievements by developing three more factories in SIPCOT, Irungattukottai subsequently in 2004, 2007, for each category of the product range.  Our latest manufacturing facility, titled Global Manufacturing Hub (GmH) is spread over 52 acres with state-of-art smart manufacturing unit inaugurated in 2021. In total, Schwing Stetter India has five manufacturing facility in India catering to the demands of our customers not only domestically but also internationally.

How technologically advanced are your manufacturing facilities in India? Also, what are the safety features incorporated in these facilities?

The Global Manufacturing Hub, Cheyyar, Tamil Nadu is a smart manufacturing facility which was inaugurated in the year 2021 hosts a manufacturing process that is mostly automated and IoT connected. The man-machines have also been automated for efficient monitoring. We follow a Zero Accident Culture, and we preserve this practice with the installation of 3600 cameras, numerous safety signs, ever-ready medical team with ambulance, flameless and centralized kitchen, regular risk assessment, safety training, machinery equipped with safety sensors to premeditate any safety risk issue and accessible safety exits in all of our manufacturing facilities.

Can you give us a brief about your employment strength in terms of contractual and payroll?

Schwing Stetter India manpower amounts to 2600 employs spread across our various branches in India, 5 manufacturing facilities including our payroll and works staff members.

What are your company’s initiatives in skilling and training?

Schwing Stetter India has a department completely dedicated tothe training and skill development of customer staff members such as technicians, mechanics, and machine operators. Our various skill development training courses can be customized according to the qualification and experience of the participants. To match the technological upgrades on our machines and to create a holistic atmosphere for training programs, we have also included simulator training for all training courses with in-house simulators available in our training facilities. Our training centres have been recognized by the TNSDC and we areoffering courses through government portals at a subsidized cost. Schwing Stetter India recently collaborated with the government ITI polytechnic college in Cheyyar which launched a training program for 123 students from various branches of engineering from the college.The trainees who come through these government certified courses with in-depth machine knowledge are placed in premium construction companies and are also made available for our customers to hire.

How do you make use of robotics in your facilities?

Our manufacturing facilities employ robotic welding systems for the drum fabrication and truck mixers. The inner facing of the rock valve fitted in our machinery is manufactured by robotic wielding system supplied by ABB automation company. The double boring machine in our newest manufacturing facility GmH in Tamil Nadu is completely computer controlled, is one of its kind in the industry and the country. Adding to these features, our machines are all integrated with IoT to provide live reports to people concerned on the production efficiency and status updates.

Tell us on your export market and important initiatives to cater to the requirement of International market?

Schwing Stetter India is one of the dominant market leaders in the CE industry in India, and we plan to retain this position with an even stronger presence in the market with upgraded models of concrete machinery. We have been able to build our brand image in the neighbouring ASEAN countries like Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam. To cater to the rising demands from these international markets and to match the requirements of our expansion plans, the GmH (Global Manufacturing Hub) at Cheyyar has been equipped with technologically integrated manufacturing facilities. SCHWING Stetter India plans to expand to Brazil, the USA, and GCC and increase the foothold of the company in Munich and a large part of eastern Europe. We are also opening a new branch in central Africa as we currently have a strong presence in countries like Lithuania and other parts of southern Africa. SCHWING Stetter India is also the exporter of products and components to all the sister subsidiaries of the company across the globe.

What are your future plans to cash-in the infrastructure boom in India?  

The infrastructure in India is set to expect a 7% of compound annual growth rate in the forecast period 2016-2026. And the market experts at SCHWING Stetter India are also excited about the upcoming and ongoing government investments in building infrastructure by opening more and more construction projects across the nation. Our R&D department and product managers are working steadily on developing machines with increased cost efficiency that will provide more output with lesser fuel cost. We are simultaneously improving our equipment to fit the needs of our customers by constantly procuring feedbacks to comprehend the existing challenges faced by using the machinery in different types of construction projects. We believe that our machinery which always aligns with the needs of the market will be met with increased demand as the infrastructure boom takes off.
