Massive Afforestation Drive to Begin in Singareni from June 1; 40 lakh saplings to be planted across 675 hectares in SCCL

With the monsoon season approaching, Singareni Collieries CMD N. Balram has announced a large-scale Vanamahotsavam (afforestation drive) to be launched across all SCCL areas starting June 1. This year, the company plans to plant and nurture 40 lakh saplings covering an area of 675 hectares.
To monitor progress on the ambitious ‘Neeti Bindhu – Jala Sindhu’ water conservation programme and the upcoming afforestation activities, the CMD held a special video conference with company directors, area General Managers, and heads of Forestry and Environment Departments. During the meeting, he reviewed area-wise plantation targets for Vanamahotsavam and instructed strict adherence to these goals.
Following the Government of Telangana’s directive, Balram emphasized celebrating Vanamahotsavam with enthusiasm and encouraged active participation from employees and local communities alike.
Regarding the Neeti Bindhu – Jala Sindhu programme, which focuses on enhancing groundwater levels in Singareni regions, 48 of the proposed 62 mini water tanks have been completed so far. The CMD expressed satisfaction with this progress and mandated that the remaining tanks be finished within the next week.
In addition, desilting operations have been targeted for 45 existing water tanks, with 25 already completed, according to area officials. The CMD instructed that these efforts be accelerated through coordination with local government authorities.
Upon completion, SCCL will have constructed or rejuvenated a total of 107 water tanks, marking a significant milestone in community welfare. He further directed that all civil works be carried out to maximize water inflow and retention in these tanks during the monsoon season.
Stressing the importance of quality, the CMD urged strict measures to safeguard the structural integrity of embankments. He also announced plans for personal inspections of all 107 water bodies in the coming days.

Subhani (Executive Director - Coal Movement), Mohan Parigein (Advisor - Forestry), A. Manohar (GM - CPP), Saidulu (GM - Environment & Forestry), along with other senior officials from headquarters and all area General Managers via video conference.
