BEML ACCELERATES NATION-BUILDING with Dual Indigenous Launches

In a bold affirmation of its engineering excellence and commitment to nation-building, BEML Ltd., a Government of India enterprise under the Ministry of Defence, has unveiled two major indigenous products designed to power India’s growth in both critical infrastructure and strategic defence. The launch of the Motor Grader BG 1205 and the High Mobility Vehicle (HMV) 12x12 signals a new phase of self-reliant innovation in India’s industrial and defence ecosystem.

Building Bharat, from Bharat

India is witnessing an unprecedented surge in demand for modernized, high-performance equipment across core sectors such as mining, construction, and defence. Massive public investments in coal mining expansion, smart infrastructure, and strategic defence modernization are opening up new market avenues for indigenous OEMs.

India’s coal production targets continue to rise, with Coal India Limited (CIL) and its subsidiaries, including SECL and NCL, aggressively expanding capacity to meet the nation’s energy demands. This growth necessitates reliable, high-capacity mining equipment that can operate efficiently under tough conditions. Simultaneously, the nation’s defence sector is undergoing a transformational shift with increased focus on indigenous procurement, mobility modernization, and logistics readiness to secure borders and enhance rapid deployment capabilities.

Motor Grader BG 1205: Powering Productivity in Coalfields

At its Mysuru manufacturing complex, BEML flagged off the BG 1205 Motor Grader, a fully indigenous, high-performance grader designed for road-laying and maintenance in large mining zones. The launch was graced by Shri Shantanu Roy, Chairman and Managing Director of BEML Ltd., along with Shri Harish Duhan, CMD of South Eastern Coalfields Ltd. (SECL), and BEML’s leadership team.

With a massive 24-foot blade and rugged build, the BG 1205 is engineered to operate seamlessly alongside high-capacity dumpers, ensuring smooth haul roads in large mines. It is especially suited for deployment in SECL Bilaspur and NCL Singrauli – key hubs in India’s coal mining network.

This new addition not only enhances mine productivity and safety but also aligns with Coal India’s goal of reducing dependency on imported machinery. It is a definitive step forward in advancing the ‘Make in India’ mission within the core sector of mining and infrastructure development.

HMV 12x12: Redefining Strategic Mobility

BEML’s Palakkad complex, known for its Defence and aerospace prowess, recently saw the launch of the High Mobility Vehicle (HMV) 12x12, developed in collaboration with the Vehicles Research and Development Establishment (VRDE), DRDO. This state-of-the-art platform represents a strategic leap in India’s Defence mobility capabilities.

Launched by CMD Shri Shantanu Roy in the presence of Shri G. Ramamohana Rao, Director, VRDE, and senior officials, the HMV 12x12 is built for extreme terrains and hostile environments. With a Gross Vehicle Weight of 65 tons, a BSIII-compliant engine, and a 7-speed Allison Automatic Transmission, the HMV is optimized for transporting critical Defence assets such as missiles, radar systems, and heavy payloads.

The vehicle has been developed under the banner of BEML’s Futuristic Product Innovation and Incubation Centre (FPIIC), a hub for high-impact R&D and technology incubation.

Strategic Vision Meets Market Momentum

These twin launches underscore BEML’s foresight in addressing India’s future needs with robust indigenous solutions. As global geopolitical dynamics reshape defence posturing and supply chains, India’s policy thrust on AatmaNirbhar Bharat is driving demand for homegrown technologies in key sectors.

BEML, with its multi-sectoral manufacturing base, is uniquely positioned to harness these opportunities. Its continuous efforts to localize critical systems, build strategic partnerships, and invest in innovation have positioned the company as a key enabler in India’s industrial and strategic transformation.

From strengthening mine productivity to enabling Defence readiness, BEML’s Motor Grader BG 1205 and HMV 12x12 are more than just machines — they are embodiments of a confident, self-reliant, and future-ready India.
