How do you perceive the opportunities getting better for the OEMs in the construction equipment industry as the Bharatmala project aims to ensure speeding up approval processes to enable quicker execution of projects?
The National Infrastructure Pipeline is a enviable initiative by the government with a outlay of $ 1.3 Trillion, exclusively for the infrastructure development. Bharat Mala is a one of the biggest investment under the NIP and is again reinforced by the GATI SHAKTI project under which the government aims to build a robust high speed road network across the country .The project focusses on optimizing efficiency of freight and passenger movement across the country. This project means a lot to the OEMs of the CE industry as it offers a tremendous opportunity to supply equipment such as Batching Plants, Boom Pumps, Motor Graders, Excavators and Truck Mixers and other road construction equipment.
How do you see initiatives like ‘Make in India’, PLI scheme etc, further accelerating the growth of the construction equipment sector?
As per the Vision plan of ICEMA, India should become the largest Supplier of CE only next to China by the year 2025. The NIP and through projects such as Bharatmala, provides tremendous opportunities for Indian Construction equipment manufacturing locally. Taking up the ‘Make in India’ initiative and being self-reliant in this sector can only India pip china in the long run. Schwing Stetter India has been a forerunner in practicing the ‘Make in India’ initiative since its inception in India. Today, Schwing Stetter India has set up Global Manufacturing hub near Kanchipuram is a ‘Make in India’ project which is catering not only to the domestic needs but also for the international market all over the globe.
Which of your equipment are employed in the Bharatmala project? What are your major contributions in this project?
The phase 1 of the Bharatmala project is now under construction at various corridors of the country, but being delayed due to few bureaucracy such land acquisition and the pandemic. Post pandemic, the construction has started executing at a faster pace. We have supplied Concrete Batching Plants in H2.25 capacities, M30, and other higher capacity Plants along with hundreds of Truck Mixers. In line with International trends, the project executioners are moving towards high reach Boom Pumps recently and these projects have seen many Boom pump take off in the 36 meter, and 43 meter reach.
Apart from this our XCMG range of Excavators, Wheel Loader, motor graders and Piling rigs have found huge space in these projects.
Can you elaborate or provide suggestions that need to be incorporated by the government to ensure not just the success of the programme, but also growth for the construction equipment manufacturers?
The CE industry is at present crippled by factors such as spiraling steel prices and semi conductors based control systems shortage. These two issues should be regulated by the government and by relaxing norms for setting up the Electronics park catering to CE industry and intervene and regulate steel price Spikes.
