How do you see the role of women evolving in the construction equipment industry?
Women are increasingly stepping into technical and leadership roles in the construction equipment industry. With advancements in technology and automation, opportunities have expanded beyond traditional support roles. At Terex, we are fostering a culture of inclusion by enabling women to grow in areas such as manufacturing, engineering, and operations. By providing training, mentorship, and leadership pathways, we are ensuring that women have the resources to build successful careers. Our commitment to an inclusive workplace has been recognized with the Great Place to Work badge, reflecting our ongoing efforts to create equitable opportunities for all employees.
What are the key challenges women face in this traditionally male-dominated sector?
Despite progress, women still face workplace biases, underrepresentation in leadership, and limited access to skill-building opportunities. Many technical and field-based roles are still perceived as male-dominated, making it harder for women to break into these areas. At Terex, we are addressing these challenges by actively encouraging women to take on technical roles, implementing policies that support career growth, and fostering a safe and supportive work environment. By challenging stereotypes and providing equal opportunities, we are helping bridge the gender gap and paving the way for more women to excel in the industry.
What steps has your company taken to promote gender diversity and inclusivity in the workforce?
Terex is committed to fostering an inclusive workplace by investing in women’s growth and development. Through initiatives like “Joy of Giving,” led by women employees, we empower our team members to take the lead in giving back to the community. This year, as part of the initiative, we supported underprivileged girls with donated gifts.
Our International Women’s Day celebrations extend beyond March 8, featuring a variety of initiatives throughout the year to promote women’s growth and empowerment. These include self-defence classes and activities that focus on building confidence and advancing careers. Yearly women’s retreats offer further opportunities for networking and professional development. Looking ahead, we plan to sponsor higher education, including technical and diploma programs, for women employees on the shop floor to enhance their career prospects, with plans set for this year.
