What are the demand outlook and the growth drivers for excavators of different capacities for general construction, roads and highways, and the mining sector?
Owing to the rapid urbanization, industrialization, and construction projects across India, the excavators’ market is expected to grow at exponential growth in India during the forecast period of 2020-26. Several government projects like smart cities, metro, golden corridor, expressway projects, unshackling of mining industry, and rail & road construction across the country are some of the key growth drivers for the excavators market in India. The government’s major infra push in the latest budget would also give impetus to the demand for excavators in India.
Advancements in attachment coupling technology combined with new products mean materials processing can increasingly take place at the end of an excavator’s arm. To what extent have you been able to leverage the advantages of disruptive technologies in the range of excavators?
Coupling technology can facilitate easy attachments and detachments of various arm extensions in excavators like the bucket etc. We have successfully used this in our new SY140 tunnel excavator, which is armed with one-piece top, bottom, and side plates of boom and arm. The 14-ton excavator comes up with an enclosed bucket cylinder and side-mounted hose & pipes. Its bottom-mounted boom and arm cylinders offer it excellent wear resistance and durability.
What do you think are the challenges, risk factors and possible new avenues in the excavator segment?
The fluctuating economic scenario and the need for more efficient, powerful, and technologically advanced excavators have posed several hurdles for the manufacturers’ in the excavator segment. The main challenges faced by the industry include economic slowdown, technological advancement, cutthroat competition and the pandemic, etc. The risk of overturning, boom failure, exposure to airborne contaminants and weather conditions are the major risk factors in the segment. The possibility of new avenues in the excavators’ segment in the near future would be electric excavators, alternative fuel engines and remote control excavators, etc.
How has data analytics and sensor technologies impacted your cab design for excavators?
The operator’s comfort and safety have always been our priority when it comes to the cab design of
our excavator lineup. Sany offers innovative well-sealed spacious cabins along with various user-friendly facilities like shock absorbers to maximize comfort. Furthermore, it also incorporates various escape safeguards as well as an anti- falling object protection welded steel structure in case of any emergencies. Additionally, the intelligence private controller also monitors the machine in real-time. It also relays the information immediately on the monitor if any abnormality occurs in regards to aspects like engine oil press, water temperature, hydraulic pressure, etc. A hydraulic leading lock has also been added to the cab design to prevent accidents by unconscious operation. Once the lock is turned on, it will temporarily disallow the joysticks to control the machine.
Give us a brief on the advances made in the engine used in excavators?
Latest Sany India excavators have been built with a high fuel-efficient & reliable Kubota engine. Its additional superior synchronization with advanced hydraulic system and Dynamic Optimization Matching Control System (DOMCS) offers a premium balance to meet both performance demands and fuel economy in order to maximize customer satisfaction. Moreover, a 4 cylinder water-cooled diesel engine system has further been incorporated with the turbocharger to improve the overall efficiency of the engine.
Owing to these advanced features, Sany’s latest C-9 excavator series has been able to offer a rated engine power range of up to 506 HP (377 kW)/ 1800 rpm. Even for our compact and versatile mini excavators; we are offering a starting rated engine power from 20.4HP @ 2500 rpm for the operating weight of 2680 Kg.
C-10 is the latest series which has an eco-friendly engine. In large excavators, Sany offers common rail direct injection engine (CRDi) technique, which directly injects fuel into the cylinders of a diesel engine through a single, common line, known as the common rail.
