Andrei Geikalo
Founder and CEO, MYCRANE
Can you provide a brief history and overview of your company, including the range of equipment you offer for rental?
MYCRANE was established in 2021 by Andrei Geikalo, a former commercial director at Mammoet, the world’s largest engineered heavy lifting company. The goal was to bring all the benefits of digitalization to the crane rental process – which in earlier days was a time-consuming, inefficient, offline process.
The free-to-use MYCRANE platform takes the crane rental process online for the first time, replacing the need to make cumbersome offline enquiries. After completing the simple registration process, MYCRANE users are able to quickly and easily find lifting equipment using the platform, saving time and money as they do so.
In September 2024, MYCRANE reached a significant milestone when recent supplier registrations pushed the platform’s inventory of lifting equipment above 10,000 machines. Using the first global crane rental platform, customers can simply and quickly request a crawler, mobile or tower crane with a capacity of up to 4,000 tonnes.
What are the current trends you observe in the construction/infrastructure equipment rental market?
Indian Government initiatives such as National Infrastructure Pipeline (NIP), Smart Cities Mission and Bharatmala and Sagarmala projects mean that demand for construction equipment is surging at the present time.
When rental equipment such as cranes is scarce, the MYCRANE platform has a vital role to play, helping our customers secure the equipment they need.
We are pleased to note the growing role of digitalization in the sector, which is maximizing asset efficiency and providing a better service to customers. Increasing adherence to safety measures is also welcomed – and promoted by MYCRANE.
What are the primary challenges faced by rental companies in this industry, and how is your company addressing them?
Crane rental companies face myriad challenges – the good news is that MYCRANE exists to support them.
Cranes are extremely capital intensive, while at the same time demand is highly cyclical and often impacted by seasonal variations and economic downturns. Thanks to MYCRANE, equipment providers are able to mitigate these challenges by broadening their project pipeline, promoting their capabilities and bidding on the jobs that are most attractive to them.
Other challenges include the complexity of moving cranes and servicing projects on a pan-India basis, labour shortages, regulatory compliance and risk management. As an additional service to address these challenges, MYCRANE provides consultancy and access to subject matter experts.
How has technology impacted the rental equipment industry, and what innovations are you implementing to stay ahead?
Technological tools such as those offered by MYCRANE have made the crane rental process more efficient, safer and more adaptable to evolving customer requirements. In addition to our core product – the online crane rental service – MYCRANE develops other tools to help customers, such as our Inspections App, which verifies the images and data on cranes available for rent in order to increase customer confidence.
We are also investigating how telematics systems can be incorporated to facilitate benefits such as the remote monitoring of crane performance, equipment location and operational metrics.
What strategies do you employ to ensure customer satisfaction and retention?
Customer satisfaction is at the heart of MYCRANE’s success. For this reason, we have adopted a star system allowing users to rate the performance of our suppliers and customers. This gives confidence to MYCRANE users and encourages best practice.
When users are able to view the track history of a potential customer and or supplier – as rated by their peers – transparency increases. Besides this, MYCRANE remains in constant contact with our users to solicit feedback and drive improvements to the service.
