Leaders Speak…

V.G. Sakthikumar, Chairman & MD, Schwing Stetter India, said, “Here we are showcasing a different concept. One of the products displayed is RM60 which does the job where it crushes the demolition waste back into aggregate so that it can be used again in construction. This will bring down the strain what it has been created on solid waste dumping yards making it a responsible construction indeed. Another interesting product displayed is wet concrete recycling plant. Usually when the concrete produced is in excess and there is no further use, it’s a perishable item. This generally gets disposed of in water bodies and it has a big impact on ground water resources of the nation. This recycling plant can convert unused concrete back into aggregate and slurry, and both can be used in further production as nothing goes waste on site. The company also showcased sludge pump that can convert sludge (generated in wastewater recycling) into bio-manure. This is an established process popular in the US, Europe and China. In India such demonstration has not happened so far. We are in the final stage of convincing one of the city corporations to put up this plant on a trial basis. Once it is successful, all cities, whatever may be the flow of wastewater through underground disposal system, can treat them and recover water can be used for any application.”

Shalabh Chaturvedi, Managing Director, CASE India & SAARC, added, “Among the seven products launched, we have three new compactors, three new backhoe loaders, and a new skid-steer loader. For the soil compactor, it is only the change of BS IV to BS V on the engine, because the machine was already significantly improved when the BS CEV IV was done. The 952 NX and 450 NX compactors had undergone only an emission change previously. So, now, we have completely revamped their design. If you place the old machine and the new machine next to each other, you will not recognize that they are related to each other. They are so different from each other in terms of the innovation that we have brought into the machine. On loader backhoes also, it is not just the engine change, it is the change in the design, the way the power-weight management has been done on the machine. Even the boom structure and other features are all now different from what they used to be in the past.”

Siddharth Chaturvedi, General Manager, Marketing, Tata Hitachi, said, “At Bharat Construction Expo, our focus is on showcasing an exciting range of new products. We’re highlighting the Zaxus 1318 mini excavator and an international model from Hitachi. Additionally, we’re showcasing the Shinrai CEV5 backhoe loader, in line with the latest government mandates that have come into effect from January. Among the key products on display are the TL340H and the CEV5 wheel loader, both designed to meet current industry requirements. We’re also presenting the EX215, a flagship model in the EX series. Alongside these machines, we have a variety of attachments and spare parts on display. To attract both young and seasoned professionals, we have introduced a popular brand that will allow visitors to take home something valuable from the expo. Mining is experiencing significant growth, and it plays a pivotal role in meeting the goals set for power generation. Steel, a crucial component in infrastructure, depends on iron ore, and as the demand for steel increases, mining in iron ore will continue to expand. Similarly, cement, an essential ingredient in infrastructure and concrete, requires limestone, driving the growth of mining in that sector as well. For infrastructure to thrive, industries such as steel, cement, iron ore, and aluminum must grow in tandem. There’s no question that these industries must expand to support the nation’s infrastructure development.”

P.L. Muthusekkar, Chief Operating Officer (COO), Hailstone Innovations, said, “Currently, GDP growth is above 6%, though it’s not reaching the expected 7% or more, which we had hoped for. While the country is on track to become the third-largest economy in the world, given the current geopolitical and global conditions, a growth rate of 6% +is something we should be satisfied with.

We anticipate continued government spending, especially in infrastructure, as it remains essential for development and progress. Good Infrastructure is where Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) will flow, new industries will emerge, and urban civilization will thrive. We expect significant government investment in this sector, which will not only benefit our company but also the entire construction industry. When it comes to the mining sector, I see a significant push towards transparency, especially with the focus on rare minerals. India, for example, has valuable resources like lithium. Whenever we discuss mining, I often say that if we truly unleash the sector, it has the potential to significantly boost our GDP. The capacity of mining is enormous. If you look at rich countries, much of their wealth has stemmed from mining. Although mining’s contribution to India’s GDP may not be as large yet, the potential is substantial. I believe the government is taking the right steps by promoting transparency, encouraging market players, and focusing on rare minerals. This is where the future business opportunities lie.”

Vishwesh Rai, General Manager, Fayat Road Equipment - Sales India, said, “We are excited to introduce our new 15-tonne soil compactor, a game-changer for greenfield projects. This machine addresses the unmet need for higher compaction capacity, exceeding the performance of current 10 and 11-tonne models. Contractors will benefit from a 30-35% fuel savings thanks to the Cummins engine and a 30-35% time savings due to fewer passes required for optimal compaction. We’re targeting this machine for major highway and airport projects. We’re committed to working with stakeholders to promote increased road infrastructure development and faster project execution, which are essential for industry progress. We anticipate further project announcements and streamlined processes. In parallel, we’re enhancing our roller product line with new technologies, including fleet management and intelligent compaction.”

According to Sharwan Agnihotri, Head – Mining & Export Business, HD Hyundai CE (India), “Our primary equipment segment is excavators, ranging from 3 tons to 52 tons. We have recently started manufacturing 3-ton and 5-ton wheel loaders. With the implementation of new emission norms, we showcased the new BS-V range of wheel loaders at the recent bauma CONEXPO India exhibition, and we are displaying them here as well. We plan to introduce more variants of wheel loaders that comply with the latest emission norms. Additionally, we are working on new product developments for the road sector. With India emerging as a key market for global players, our management is placing significant focus on expanding our presence here. In our industry, 90-95% of equipment purchases are financed. Encouraging leasing could create opportunities for 10-20 leasing companies to buy equipment in bulk from manufacturers and offer them on short- and long-term leases. A simplified tax structure from the government could support this shift. In many developed markets, leasing constitutes a significant share of total equipment demand. Another area of focus should be a scrapping policy for construction equipment. Phasing out older machines would boost new sales and encourage the adoption of advanced models.”

Samip Desai, Director, MOBA Mobile Automation, said, “The name MOBA is derived from “mobile automation,” reflecting our core focus. Our vision is to be the leading choice for automation in all mobile applications. Industries such as road construction, agriculture, and mining require electronic solutions that operate reliably in extreme conditions, including high vibrations, elevated temperatures, and moisture. At MOBA, we design our products specifically to withstand these challenging environments. Unlike factory or home automation, our expertise is solely dedicated to heavy equipment, ensuring durability and performance in the toughest working conditions.

We are currently working on this initiative with the government. We have made several presentations at the ministry level, and they are actively considering updating these specifications. The existing specifications are outdated—we still have sensor-free and mechanical pavers in use.”

Arun Prasad Rangarajan, Deputy General Manager, PD & Sales, Hydraulic Cylinder & Axle Shaft – Wheels India, said, “We are showcasing hydraulic cylinders and wheels, both of which are integral to the construction equipment sector. In the wheel segment, we are already well-established, while our hydraulic business began in 2010 under the name Sundaram Hydraulics. This division merged with Wheels India in 2023, and we are experiencing rapid growth in the hydraulic cylinder market, a topic frequently highlighted by our Managing Director in interviews. We are targeting a growth rate of 30 to 40% annually. Being part of a larger company allows us to scale up quickly in terms of resources and manpower. Our focus in the hydraulic cylinders segment is on those used in backhoes, skid steers, and mobile cranes. For backhoes, we manufacture cylinders for approximately 500 machines, covering components like loaders, stabilizers, and more—essentially producing all 12 cylinders required for these machines. Currently, we produce around 12,000 cylinders per month, and we expect to reach 16,000 cylinders per month by June.”

Varun Arora, Strategic Partnerships Manager, THM Huade Hydraulics, said, “Our products are used in road construction machinery, including soil compactors, road compactors, rollers, and cranes. We have a significant market share in crawler cranes. Additionally, we are branching out into concrete mixers. We have developed a pump for self-loading concrete mixing. As a component-level manufacturer, our goal is to localize manufacturing more and more. We have allocated funds and finalized plans to create close to 350 jobs. This investment has stabilized some of our technology in India.”
