How do you access the evolution of the sustainability/green commitment aspect in the construction equipment industry?
For the Wirtgen Group sustainable technologies is not just a trend, but rather an integral part of our corporate principles. The Wirtgen Group incorporates sustainability into all of our business processes. Environmental considerations are given top priority right from the development and design phase of the Wirtgen Group’s products, and are a central element in all stages of the production chain – right through to the use of the machines in projects around the world. We know that the future belongs to climate-friendly products and so we already are manufacturing them today.
How has it impacted on your design philosophy and the production processes? And also tell us how green is your production processes?
Creating efficient and sustainable solutions is already our top priority during the development and design of all Wirtgen Group products. Wirtgen Group machines feature intelligent control systems and clever automatic functions to achieve maximum productivity with low fuel consumption and minimal emissions. Innovative technologies and machines proactively protect the environment.
How have you been able to leverage sustainable and green technology in your product?
The philosophy for our VÖGELE Premium Line road pavers is ‘Lower consumption – lower emissions – lower costs’. The VÖGELE EcoPlus low-emissions package combines a number of individual measures to reduce fuel consumption and noise levels to a significant extent. For VÖGELE green is more than just a colour. This is clearly proven by the eco-friendly technical innovations that make VÖGELE EcoPlus so unique.
Our Kleemann Crushing and Screening plants are environmentally-compatible solutions for reducing noise and dust and have solutions for effective noise reduction and effective dust containment.
In the field of compaction technology, HAMM offers an innovative complete package in the form of its Power Hybrid drive, which delivers full (compaction) power while at the same time protecting the environment. The hybrid drive cuts fuel consumption by 15% and therefore reduces emissions. By adjusting the engine power, the drive system also emits less noise.
The innovative feature ‘Mill Assist’ for Wirtgen Cold milling machines, always selects the most favorable ratio between milling performance and operating costs. The machine responds intelligently and dynamically to changing conditions. This makes the operator’s job a great deal easier while vastly improving machine performance and reducing diesel, water and tool consumption as well as CO2 and noise emissions.
Could you brief us on your commitment to make the entire industry more sustainable / green?
Wirtgen Group products for road construction, the mining and processing of raw materials, and recycling construction materials are not only extremely environmentally friendly thanks to their innovative, efficient machine technology. The processes they are used for, from road rehabilitation to cold recycling, also make a contribution to combating climate change.
