How do you assess the growth opportunities for component manufacturers like you who have products for different applications across sectors? Which sectors are looking promising?

Our strong presence in the industry and closeness to customers is the key to assess the growth opportunities in various sectors. Expert team here has drawn specific growth strategies for various sectors. We are a complete drive solutions from a single source with global presence. The NORD product package provides an optimal and individual drive solution. Each of the variants combines: the highest product quality, shorter planning and production lead times, faster deliveries supported by good price/performance ratio. We cater to almost all sectors such as material handling, steel, chemical, pharmacy, food and beverages, water treatment, pumps, cement, power, solar, airport, intralogistics, road construction and many more industries.

How has digitalization and robotics disrupted the manufacturing processes, enterprise value chain and supply chain? Tell us about the smart features of your manufacturing processes and how are they enabling in improving productivity, efficiency and also lowering costs?

Digital transformation is the present industrial revolution, some famously call it as Industry 4.0. The rise of informed customers and innovative technologies have made the manufacturing industry an example of how effective modern operational strategies can reshape the overall operations of an organization. The tools of technological disruption like IIoT helps the manufacturing industry to reduce the consumption of man & machine resources but with increased output without compromising on quality or if needed even enhancing it keeping overall production costs well in control. With digital technology being increasingly absorbed across industrial sectors, now we can predict product manufacturing & delivery lead time with higher accuracies. The innovative tools thus help in increasing productivity with operational efficiency and improved supply chain management systems. Same applies to our own products, all are industry 4.0 compatible thus helping our end customers to increase their own process efficiency & up times.

The concept of ‘Make in India’ for the world seems to have caught up with most of the OEMs.  What is your take on this? Indian CE industry taken as whole what is the current growth and expected CAGR in export?

Make in India is one of the best Initiatives for the country and it is shaping up – though it has taken more than the predicted tune still will help the industry & manifesting GDP growth.

How much is the current manufacturing capacity in India & are there plans to enhance the same. Kindly elaborate?

As on date NORD India installed manufacturing capacity is roughly 42000 geared motors per annum plus another 22000 Electrical Motor production with capacity utilization factor something between of 75% to 85%. These requirements are served through two NORD production plants; one in Hinjewadi MIDC phase II, started in Nov 2008 & second adjacent plant which was acquired recently in 2019. In addition, we have a extensive warehouse facility in Hinjewadi MIDC phase I, acquired in October 2017 to support continuous increasing customer base. In short this year we will complete 14 years of our existence in India market & during this phase have witnessed three expansions at different stages.

Any capital expenditure plan for increasing capacity and/or distribution network. Also, are there plans for technological tie-ups or increasing spends on R&D? Please elaborate.

Considering consistently growing Indian market & NORD India consolidating its presence, last year we had acquired adjacent plant & added large size gearbox production capacity to local production portfolio. This new facility is spread on area measuring 7211 sqmt while building area is 3213 sqmt. This is be NORD India’s second production facility. Further with time NORD India has plans to add new gearbox variants into its production portfolio like industrial gearbox units (IGU) production along with specialized paint shop facility. Our R&D is at parent company in Germany & continuous investment happens for product development and efficiency improvements. The R&D is more happening on electronic products like- Field Distribution Systems (FDS) & Variable Frequency Drive (VFD), etc. also on premium efficiency motors and special gear boxes.
