Can you brief us on the demand-supply trends / growth drivers for filters used in construction and mining equipment?

Our customers and our customer’s customers rely on ready-to-use engines and machinery whenever they are needed. By securing the best protection possible of their engines and machinery, we take care of one of their major concerns.

We see a growing demand for genuine and high quality parts to protect engines and machinery in the OES market. This demand is driven by the enhanced awareness ofobvious advantages in the power and delivery performance of the engine or the vehicle by active maintenance of filters and other accessories. When it comes to filtration, strong dust holding capacity and filtration efficiency provide maximum protection to the vehicle from harmful contaminants.

Genuine OES filters maximize the vehicle’s performance and increase the flow of clean air into the engine, resulting in high power and reduction in fuel consumption. This is exceptionally important considering the extreme operation conditions in the fields of construction and mining.

What are the technological trends in your range of filters such as fluid filters, fuel filters, oil filters, transmission filters and coolant filters?

We see different trends that are in demand at the same time and are becoming increasingly important:

Increasing filtration efficiencies and longer service intervals to increase protection and reduce downtime: We serve that demand by for example using new synthetic and glass fiber filter medias.

Reliable water separation to protect fuel injection systems

Easy and clean service solutions

Digitalization: e.g. constant filter monitoring for demand driven service

Module technology: functional integration from simple spin-on filters to liquid filter modules

Sustainability: eco friendly filtration solutions

What is your growth strategy for the coming months in terms of investments/ capacity expansion/ product launch etc?

MANN+HUMMEL offers a full product portfolio. Being able to fulfill all our customer’s needs and demands has been and will be one of the key drivers for continuous success.

This goes hand in hand with high innovative strength. We have been setting standards for 80 years and this is what we will continue to do. For example with our new WAVELOCK bayonet lock. Spin-on oil filters from MANN+HUMMEL have been proven for years and offer optimum protection. However, the filter change of conventional spin-on filters is power-consuming and only possible with a strap wrench or a comparable special tool. The bayonet lock developed by MANN+HUMMEL for the mounting of spin-on filters sets new standards for easy servicing and reduction of service costs.

Furthermore MANN+HUMMEL has the strategic approach to fulfil the demands of regional and local markets. Therefore we are leveraging the benefits of centralized manufacturing hubs as well as local investments to be competitive in the different markets. We expect the Asian market to grow. That is why we have expansion projects for manufacturing plants planned.

What has been the impact of the pandemic on filter industry, especially on your business performance?

The Covid-19 pandemic challenged everybody. As a leading global company in filtration technology, MANN+HUMMEL felt compelled to take action. To tackle the challenge, we fundamentally changed the way we worked together: New meeting formats, faster turnaround time, and new processes that took agility and iteration to a new level. This enabled us to develop four mobile air filtration products that were deployed in stores, schools and doctors’ offices in just 90 days. Meanwhile, our day-to-day business continued as a matter of course: we continued to develop, we continued to produce and we worked even more intensively with our customers.

Efficient filtration systems can help manufacturers meet stringent emission regulations requirements, be it fuel filters, engine oil filters or air filters for heavy duty and off-road vehicles. What is your take on this?

When it comes to cleaner mobility, cleaner air, and cleaner water, there is no mine or yours. There is only ours. The world we live in, the air we breathe, the water we drink, and the ground we walk upon has always been common ground.
