Customers are becoming focused on green initiatives and savings in fuel costs and leaving a lesser carbon footprint. Could you please help us understand the green initiatives on product development undertaken by your organisation?
At Volvo CE, the passion to enhance customer experience with our products is matched by our passion to preserve the environment we live in. This translates into an unending series of sustainable innovations across our equipment range and manifests in unique features to distinguish the brand from the rest.
For instance, the newly introduced Volvo EC550E excavator features Independent Metering Valve Technology (IMVT), a novel electro-hydraulic system facilitating engine/pump optimisation. It helps customers save on fuel costs with no loss in productivity. The Volvo EC 300DL Block Handler and EC 480D Excavator are two more examples with features that deliver cutting edge advantage in quarry and mining applications. The EC 300DL sports specially toughened undercarriage components and heavy-duty lower frame to effectively operate in most challenging conditions. The EC 480D with Vibro Ripper Attachment shields from vibration and shock while delivering three times more productivity compared to breakers. The upgraded Volvo H-series wheel loaders feature new-generation OptiShift technology which renders them at least 10% more productive and 20% more fuel efficient.
The Volvo range of road construction equipment including compactors, pavers and pneumatic rollers are custom-designed for Indian market and Indian work conditions. They offer features like intuitive controls, 3600 visibility, smart displays and ample space all of which help operators maximise productivity with effortless ease.
What are your after-sales initiatives for your range of products?

Dedicated aftermarket teams offer advice on a range of Volvo Services with a view to help maximize return on investment in Volvo machines. Exploring ways to delight customers and enhance their experience with Brand Volvo – it is forever a ‘work in progress’ at Volvo CE.
We have recently launched “A operator on Wheels” where in a truck fitted with a simulator is going to customer sites to train their operators. Such an operator if trained and skilled better, will be able to use these machine in the most efficient manner and deliver a much higher productivity per hour, which translates directly into higher profitability for customers.
What are the plans for electrification of the offering by your organisation? What typical challenges do you think the industry would face if we have to move to complete electric offering for the customers?
With India poised to take a quantum leap in infrastructure development and demand for minerals and metals in the country set to grow exponentially, the need to reduce the carbon footprint is greater than ever. For the construction and mining equipment industry, this is a challenge and an opportunity.
The industry needs take significant leaps towards accelerating climate-efficient technologies that are safe, productive and cost-effective. We also need to step up efforts towards increased electrification of equipment, reduced energy consumption or use of alternative eco-friendly fuels in machine operations.
Not to forget the steady strides in continuous improvements in digital, AI and data processing capabilities, and 24/7 monitoring of equipment at work sites are starting points for industry to consider and work on.
