What are the key drivers fueling growth in sales of engines used in off-highway vehicles and equipment, particularly with the Covid 19 impact on the sector?

One of the major factors for the increase in sales of off-highway equipment is the growth in the construction and agricultural industry. We are seeing an increase in urbanization and infrastructural developments which is exponentially increasing demand for off-highway equipment. The onset of covid-19 did impact and disrupt supply chains to an extent but now the demand is back to pre-covid levels. We being an emerging economy need to focus on infrastructural developments and at the same time emphasize on reducing down time and increasing efficiency. According to industry projections, the Indian construction equipment market is expected to develop at a steady rate year over year, and high-quality equipment is essential for this expansion. We offer a diverse range of products with the goal of guiding this growth, empowering people to be more productive and boosting the nation’s prosperity.

Increasing stringency of implementing new emission norms have led to several technological advancements in the off-highway equipment industry. Could you brief us on these advancements, especially in terms of electric engines?

Our product lines are up-to-date on the most recent emission control stages. We provide a wide range of fuel-agnostic powertrain options with reduced total cost of ownership, enhanced dependability, and adherence to regulatory requirements, making them ideal for commercial applications. We’re seeing a surge in demand for electric engines and we’re ready to meet with our products for various application segments.

How do the engine power and torque characteristics, as well as peripheral aggregates such as cooling system, oil sump, air cleaner etc help in the designing of engines in handling the varying demands from different applications?

Our Industrial Engines were created to help manufacturers construct equipment and machines that deliver a high return on investment and greater productivity for their applications. Greaves engines are gaining popularity in the agriculture, pump, marine, light construction, Defence and specialty application-driven industries. For decades, many OEM partners and millions of consumers have trusted it because of its renowned low TCO, extraordinarily high durability, and extensive aftermarket network spanning the length and breadth of the country. Every application needs thorough study and engines need to be applied for varied demands like peak torque fuel economy, sudden jerk load capability, long & continuous hrs. of operations, high gradeability, long low idle operations, backup torque availability w.r.t specific application. The peripherals and engine design needs development to meet such varied demand.

What are your after-sales initiatives as the latest generation of engines require cultivating a culture of preventive and regular maintenance practices to get higher life and low operating cost of engines?

As one of the market’s top players, we’ve bolstered our position with a sophisticated pan-India ecosystem that includes a wide range of products, a retail network, aftermarket care, and skilled mechanics. Greaves engines both for the Automotive and non-automotive segment have gone through a continuous change mandated by emission regulations from conventional mechanical to electronic / combination of mechanical and electronic & after sales teams are trained to do troubleshooting, preventive maintenance for new age engines with required gadgets.

What are the challenges, risks and possible new avenues in the engine-manufacturing sector for off-highway vehicles / equipment?

The key problem here is to develop low-emission, long-lasting equipment, as efficiency and pollution control are critical. There is also a rise in operational cost due to fuel prices, and we need to look at possible developments in the electric domain of off-highway equipment in the times to come.
