How do you access the evolution of the sustainability / green commitment aspect in the construction equipment industry?

Climate concerns and sustainability have been the subject of many discussions in the CE sector. Through technology, the CE sector has accelerated this wave of sustainability. The government with norms like BSVI is trying to put more environment friendly vehicles and equipment on the road. At CASE, we’ve always kept environmental aspects as well as machine efficiency in mind while designing new products. Engine efficiency is accountable for overall machine efficiency, hence we use FPT Industrial S8000 engines, which deliver powerful performance and fast response time in all our equipment. Globally, CASE is already offering advanced sustainable equipment and we are working on bringing those for the Indian market as well.

How has it impacted on your design philosophy and the production processes? And also tell us how green is your production processes?

At CASE, we champion sustainability and work persistently towards making our planet better. Our WCM certified facility has automated processes and advanced technology of global standards which helps in increasing the productivity, efficiency and overall output of the plant. WCM is a pillar-structured system based on continuous improvement, designed to eliminate waste and loss from the production process by identifying objectives such as zero injuries, zero defects, zero breakdowns and zero waste. The plant holds both ISO 9001:2000 quality and ISO 14000 environmental standards certifications, with an annual capacity of more than 7500 units on a single shift basis. CASE India has always kept environmental aspects as well as machine efficiency in mind while designing new products.

We care about the environment and keep its importance in mind at each step of the process.

How have you been able to leverage sustainable and green technology in your product?

The Construction Equipment industry is moving towards a sustainable future. The government has announced a slew of norms to encourage the use of more environment friendly vehicles and equipment on & off the roads. Case has always furthered the cause of sustainability. Globally, CNH has already launched many environment friendly technologies such as Project TETRAa Methane-Powered Concept Wheel Loader. The wheel loader ensures 15 percent less CO2 and 99 percent less particulate matter than its diesel-based counterpart. Case also launched the industry’s first Fully Electric Backhoe this year – the 580EV, which has zero emissions and helps customers save as much as 90 percent in annual vehicle, fuel and maintenance costs.

Although the cost of implementing such norms and technology will be on the higher side but at CASE, we value the environment and believe that each change contributes to the betterment of the world we inhabit. We have also been recognized as a Global Sustainability Leader for several years in a row.

Could you brief us on your commitment to make the entire industry more sustainable / green?

CASE Construction believes in giving back to the community and environment. At CNH Industrial, we take up CSR projects which are focused on sustainability in synergy with its role as the recognized leader according to Dow Jones Sustainability Indices for the 8th consecutive year. CASE India recently, has undertaken and launched its CSR Project, Jal Sanchay-Water Conservation and Rejuvenation of Traditional Water Body at Sanjay Jalashay, Pithampur. The goal of the project is the renovation of Sanjay Jalashay in order to conserve water and improve sanitary condition near around lake, while enhancing the ecosystem through plantation.

Through our tree plantation project, we also contribute to preserving the environment, making India cleaner and greener. Tree Plantation Project was initiated on World Environment Day on 5th June 2018, at Pithampur Plant. We have planted around 5000 saplings on a stretch of the divider, measuring approximately 4.5km in front of the plant.

What positive impact will the proposed emission norms have on the CE industry making it sustainable and green?

The government has announced a slew of norms to encourage the use of more environment friendly vehicles and equipment on & off the roads. A BSVI engine in terms of efficiency gives better performance and mileage. It will also reduce PM emissions, which is a main constituent for outdoor air pollution, by over 80% in diesel engine vehicles which benefits the environment.

As mentioned before, the cost of implementing these norms will be on the higher side but we’ll be happy to invest in change that protects the environment and will be ready to shift to these emission norms as and when the government deems it necessary. We have also been recognized as a Global Sustainability Leader for several years in a row. The current circumstances which have restricted cash flow and movement for the CE industry have led the government to consider deferring the BS-VI emission norms.

Globally, CNH has already launched many environment friendly technologies and we are ready to introduce sustainable changes here in India as and when required.
