What is the market dynamics for attachment used in CE fro infra, construction, mining and demolition?

There are at least 30 to 40 brands / players who are operating in the field of supplying hydraulic attachment in India. Most of them are into hydraulic breakers only and quite a few of them are into other attachment, like drum cutters, demolition and recycling attachment as well. Segment-wise, infra and construction including the Blue Metal/DSI quarry excavation contributes to the maximum share as high as 70%-75% in India. Mining is the next application segment, where the share works out as 15%-20% approx. Demolition/De-construction segment is an upcoming field of attachment industry in India, though it’s present share is less than 5% only.

Can you brief us about trends in the range of attachment?

Hydraulic breakers are the most popular and widely used attachment in Indian market. Regarding the market size, it was around 5500 to 6000 units in 2018, which is considered as the peak. In 2019, it reduced down to approx. 4700-4800 units which has further come down to 4000-4200 units in 2020, mainly due to the impact of Covid 19 emergency situation which affected the industry in all sense. In 2021, it is again catching up & expected to finish somewhere close to 2019 numbers.

Hydraulic compactors and drum cutters are the next after bucket & breakers in terms of the numbers being sold in Indian market. We anticipate that there is a market of around 60 hydraulic compactors already in India and it is expected to grow fast in coming years.

Further, there is a market slowly growing for demolition and recycling attachment like combi cutters, grapples, steel cutters, hydro magnets etc.

What is the rental scenario of CE attachment? What are your initiatives towards this segment?

Rental is certainly an upcoming and potential segment in India, which is presently limited to unorganised sector and small scale players, as far as the attachment industry is concerned here. However, being a critical subject with certain opportunities, more and more players from organised sector are expected to join in rental business of the attachment industry.

What are the challenges and possible avenues for attachment in the construction equipment space?

Being a specialised job, the scope of deployment and operation of the attachment with the carrier machines often is been offloaded to the contractors by the project developers. Accordingly, in most of the cases, the contractors become the buyer of attachment who are actually very demanding in terms of their entire O&M cost vis-à-vis the production efficiency of the attachment, they go for. One side, they have the pressure of cost management and on the other side, they are equally concerned with the efficient performance. In such a context, the major challenge as an attachment provider is to select the most optimum tools / combination of tools / sizes to satisfy the critical needs of the contractors based upon their case specific objectives, application parameters, condition of the site etc.
