The cutting edge technology is slowly stepping up in construction equipment manufacturing and servicing domain. The machines are installed not only with supervisory control and data acquisition, but also the IIoT solutions pre-installed requirement numbers are vastly increasing. Even the legacy machines are being retrofitted with new sensor technology and migrated to cutting edge tech family.
How has advancements in technology like AI, connected equipment & tools, telematics, smartphone applications, autonomous heavy equipment, drones, robots, AR/VR impacted your equipment design in terms of increasing operational efficiency?
The technology advancement like telematics and smartphone app integrated with the equipment has obviously brought visibility to the investors. This visibility provides room to the investors to identify the loop holes that impact the productivity of the machine. For example, once we implemented telematics for one of our equipment in which the customer could increase the productivity by identifying the delay causing parameters by analysing the alerts data logged through telematics and the same has been addressed and difference in productivity increase is well noticed now and such improvisation with the telematics data is still progressive to increase the productivity and efficiency.
How does data collection help businesses and rental equipment companies to make better decisions, increase equipment utilization, improve job-site safety and manage maintenance costs?
The example scenario provided in the above query answers this and the increased productivity and efficiency obviously place the machines for better utilisation and the visibility also helps in coming up with the decisions on mobilization of equipment to the location where the demand for utilisation are more. Also, the AI is built in such way that the critical spares requirement is triggered before planning for proactive maintenance which avoids major breakdown.

Still, there are challenges prevailing in providing telematics for the equipment installed in tunnel based projects and these challenges are to be handled with a cost effective solution. More the advancement, more the challenges in adopting the data management and security as the threats are so vulnerable that prompts to bring more secured cloud infrastructure. These challenges are pretty much handled by solution provider in a better way to bring a smooth transition of digitization in construction domain.
