[/vc_column_text] How has been the exhibition for Cummins?

Over the years, starting from the time when we actually started, which is 2003, the response has only increased and possibly this is one of the best forum wherein you get to meet not just the customers, but the cross section of the people including the policymakers, people who influence the purchases, people who decide, people who actually use, and people who actually buy. I don’t think there is any exhibition in India which can replace Excon. BAUMA tried but has not gained the acceptance that EXCON has. For very simple reason that for any event to go to a next level, you need support of the industry. You know that Excon has done very good job. In fact, I would say CII the confederation of Indian industry has really done a very good job in bringing the whole industry together.

Two three months before, the mood was very sombre, nobody was really very optimistic. participants even reduced the size of their stalls. How do you see the environment here?

Yes, we have reduced our stall size to 50% of what we used to have, because we are trying to reduce our discretionary spend. Otherwise, we would have just loved to have twice the size of what we are having right now. I personally feel that the number of people who have come and enquired about our products and the new technology that we are going to bring. I beleive that the discussions have become more quality oriented with quality directions, rather than just the superficial discussions.[/vc_column_text] What are the new products that you have launched for the planned change to new emission norms from October 2020 for off-highway equipment?

Yes, for emission norms which are going to come in from April 2020 in India on highway as well as for off-highway applications from October 2020, We have launched our global High Performance Series of engines. We have tailored it to be suitable for Indian market, because in India you need to have a fit for market product, which is not just superior technology but also very cost competitive. So, we have tried to use our stage five technology and remove whatever we can to achieve the BS4 emission norms launched in India. So, from October 2020 onwards, many of our customers would be using the BS-IV engines. We are Looking forward to the April 2022 timeframe when the industry which has not seen the impact of emissions in three decades will see the emissions.

Because the CV industry has seen the emissions from BS-2 to BS-3 and BS-4, but the tracked equipment have not seen the emissions at any point of time. So how to make the products more user friendly for them is one of the biggest challenge. Our main focus is on BS-4. It may not be called CEV application noms, there are more chances of it being called CEMM, which is off-road tracked equipment for mining. So that is the biggest challenge.

What is the size of that market and what percentage you’re looking out of this?

Everyone has to convert. Out of 80,000 to 100,000 size of the equipment, close to around 35,000 to 40,000 are the tracked equipment, while the wheeled equipment constitute around 60% of equipment.

We are already the market leader in those equipments. Very soon we are going to bring the smaller series of engines of 3.3 litres, which will make the product very competitive in terms of cost of ownership. In the tracked equipment segment we are already present in the six cylinder as well as four cylinder segment. The biggest shift is going to happen from the six cylinder to the four cylinder segment in the 20 tonne excavator segment.

So what I’m trying to ask you is that since you all are  the market leaders yourself, so what percentage of the 35,000 tracked equipment you would target for Cummins?

We are currently having 70% market share in the 20-tonne excavator segment. Overall, on the tracked equipment side we have 62% plus market share. In the 20 tonne excavator segment all the OEMs are with the Cummins engine. You name the OEMs starting from Komatsu, Tata, Hitachi, JCB, Hyundai,  Sanny and others. Everybody is with Cummins engine which is a six cylinder engine, we are bringing it down to the four cylinders.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
