Please provide a brief overview of your range of conveyor products, with a specific focus on belt cleaners and related solutions?
Martin Engineering provides material handling solutions for belt conveyors in any bulk processing plant, in mining, quarrying and port handling, and from the production of cement and steel to fertilizers, biomass and more. Our conveyor products and services are proven to deliver cleaner, safer and more productive materials handling, reducing carryback, spillages and buildups.
Our specialist engineering team understands every aspect of conveyors and they deliver innovative solutions that improve handling, boost efficiency, extend component life, thereby helping end users to get a measurable return on their investment. We have a diverse portfolio of products which help to keep conveyor systems running, including a broad range of belt cleaners and components, numerous transfer point devices (such as sealing systems and impact cradles) plus belt tracking devices, dust control solutions and more. Used in combination, these reduce health and safety risk, improve plant efficiency, reduce maintenance cost and increase productivity.
What sets your conveyor products apart from competitors in terms of design, efficiency, and reliability?
Martin prides itself on a reputation for products that are superior in reliability, productivity and durability. This comes from more than 75 years of passion and expertise for delivering quality, and driving best practice in material handling situations around the world.
When it comes to ground-breaking innovations, Martin belt cleaning systems use the patented CARP blades (Constant Angle, Radial Pressure) that maintain cleaning through all stages of blade wear, cleaning better, lasting longer and ensuring cost effectiveness.
What types of belt cleaners do you manufacture? Can you describe any innovative features or technologies integrated into your belt cleaners?
We offer belt cleaners that work with all belt sizes and speeds, regardless of industry or type of material. We also offer belt cleaners that work in the most challenging and unique environments, such as on conveyor systems where there’s minimal space around the head pulley.
As the first stage in a multiple cleaner system, the Martin® primary cleaner removes the vast majority of material stuck to the belt. Martin® PV, QC1 HD and QC1 XHD cleaners are generally tensioned at low pressure against the belt. Low ‘blade-to-belt’ pressure allows the primary cleaner to be positioned at the perfect ‘peeling’ angle against the belt. Using higher pressure at this angle could damage the belt, splice or cleaner itself.
Martin secondary conveyor belt cleaners are the perfect complement to our primary cleaners, and together the clades deliver unrivalled performance. The are also engineered for fast and easy maintenance – the innovative design of the Martin® DT2S and DT2H reversible cleaners reduces system downtime and labor for servicing, and also helps to prolong the service life of other conveyor components. These secondary cleaners serve a wide variety of applications, ranging from mining, material processing, quarrying, cement production, food processing and other bulk material handling operations.
Do you offer customizable solutions to meet specific customer requirements?
Yes, offering customized solutions is a fundamental part of what we do. We tailor our solutions to meet specific customer requirements to address the ‘pain points’ they are experiencing throughout their existing conveyor systems. That’s exactly what initiatives such as our Walk The Belt™ program are designed to do so, and solutions are specific to a particular customer, plant, material or industry.
Regardless of the industry, normally we observe that a lack of frequent inspection and maintenance results in lower levels of belt cleaner effectiveness, leading to higher operating cost and an increased exposure to hazards and problems.
In reality, conveyor productivity with effective belt cleaning solutions starts at the design stage, with adequate space for cleaners and well-positioned work platforms for safe, ergonomic inspection and maintenance access.
Tell us about the remote monitoring systems you offer for conveyor products. What parameters can be monitored, and how does it enhance maintenance and operational efficiency?
The global pandemic has shown us that successful equipment monitoring can be achieved even in remote working situations with the use of state-of-the-art technology and modernization of plants. Such monitoring technologies maintain efficiency and productivity without human intervention, such as our autonomous belt cleaner tensioning system that continuously monitors and adjusts proper cleaner tension. Martin’s intuitive N2® Position Indicator allows for remote monitoring of the belt cleaner blade via a mobile app or desktop dashboard, indicating remaining blade life, when re-tensioning or replacement is required and when the blade is no longer in contact with the belt. Monitoring belt cleaners remotely reduces the need for manual inspections, minimises exposure to moving machinery and makes it easy for maintenance teams to keep on top of belt cleaner servicing.
How user-friendly is the integration process, and what kind of technical support do you offer during setup?
The integration process for our N2® system is designed to be smooth and our technicians work closely with our customers to ensure the set-up work exactly how it should. The battery-powered device feeds data about the performance and condition of conveyor belt cleaners to a central cellular ‘gateway’. The gateway then sends the information to a cloud-based server which delivers it to Martin’s mobile app or a desktop dashboard.
Supporting Martin Engineering on the technology side are two trusted ‘Internet of Things’ partners and the result is a fully automated, seamlessly integrated and secure cloud-based system that delivers super-reliable connectivity.
The N2® Position Indicator units can be mounted up to 1000 metres from the cellular ‘gateway’, and as many as 200 Position Indicators (PI’s) can be monitored by a single internet-connected gateway, which is usually located at the highest point on the plant (where the signal is strongest). The system does not require a cellular link for each PI – connection with the gateway is via radio frequency.
