What are the positive factors that are impacting excavators to stay ahead in the earth moving equipment market?
Mainly two factors which we believe that makes excavators to stay ahead, 1st is ‘widest range/tonnage capacity’ which is suitable for any kind of job, 2nd is suitable for almost all kind of applications i.e from making a trench in house backyard to breaking a mountain excavator is used whereas other products are majorly application specific, but excavator is the only product that works in almost every application. However, the size/tonnage capacity of product will change according to the application requirements.
What are the latest trends in the cab design for excavators? What is the bearing of disruptive technologies on the design of the cabs?
Cabin is one of the important part of every product. If cabin is comfortable then operator will work happily and continuously. Latest trend cabin equipped with comfortable high backrest operator seat, HVAC, latest music system & informative instrument clusters. As a package whole gives operator a cool place to spent 12 hours a day, all such features are standard in our machines, apart from it in our excavators cabin designed ergonomically and makes a quiet / noise proof station to work. We offer FOPS/ROPS features on demand which makes it more safe compare to others.
What are the advancements made in the engine used in excavators?
Well, excavator’s customers are very specific about engine. They always look for reliable engine which can work continuous for 5 years or 15,000 hours without any major breakdown. We, Schwing understand that we are offering Premium Engine to our customers despite of Small/Medium/Large tonnage excavators. Also, our engines are tuned with advance power curves which save fuel without compromising power, on the other side it is designed to perform in any condition and any ambient temperature.
What is the future outlook and growth prospect in the excavator market?
Demand for hydraulic excavators has remained consistently high in the domestic market during the last decade. It grew steadily from 16,488 units in 2016 to peak at 25,474 units in 2018 before dropping to 16,382 units in 2020.
The active population of hydraulic excavators is estimated at 162,061 units at the end of 2020. Sales of excavators are expected to reach 22,000 units in 2021 due to the easing of Covid-19 restrictions and an increase in economic activities. Furthermore, against a backdrop of an increase in infrastructure development activities, demand for hydraulic excavators is predicted to grow in the long term and is forecast to reach 32,000 units by 2025.
What are the risk factors & challenges faced by excavator manufacturers in today’s market scenario?
We don’t see any risk as a manufacturer, but yes there are challenges. Managing supply chain management, availability of key components, costing is a challenge now these days. Recently raw material costs increased drastically and due to price sensitive market, the realization of cost is difficult. As far as manufacturing is concerned, our Global Manufacturing Hub, Chennai Plant is operational now and we are committed to offer best quality excavators to our Indian customers.
