Tell us about the demand-supply scenario for hydraulic breakers.

If we ignore the negative impact of COVID-19 currently affecting the industry, the demand for hydraulic breakers continues to grow, particularly in India, where customers recognise the efficiency savings they bring to job sites. Customers are also looking to OEMs like Volvo CE to take advantage of the hydraulic breakers we offer for our own machines.

At Volvo CE we look to bridge the gap between the needs and budgets of all contractors. We do so by offering some of the best hydraulic breakers in the industry at very competitive prices. We are well-positioned to do this as we have years of engineering expertise and one of the most capable supply chains in the industry.

Volvo has a wide selection of hydraulic breakers, ranging from the HB14 Low Noise for smaller operations to the HB75 for the largest projects. Also, Volvo CE breakers offer a variety of work tools and configurations, allowing them to be customised to any project. Volvo CE hydraulic breakers offer reliable power and performance for any budget.

What are the latest technological trends in Hydraulic Breakers?

Volvo CE is at the forefront of innovation in the construction industry, so we are always looking to provide better solutions to our customers’ problems. We are seeing a shift in interest towards hybrid breakers, that combine hydraulic systems with gas technologies. Hybrid gas designs provide more shock absorption capabilities by absorbing recoil while providing additional power with each strike. As our customers demand products that can take on challenging jobs and remain productive for extended lengths of time, we see these products becoming more popular in the coming months.

Tell us about the impact of IoT on the design of hydraulic breakers.

As a mechanical attachment that works without connectivity requirements, the Internet of Things (IoT) does not have a large impact on the design of hydraulic breakers. However, our breakers work in tandem with excavators that are becoming increasingly connected. At Volvo CE, we see IoT as an integral part of the modern construction technology ecosystem. Volvo CE excavators use in a variety of ways, including vehicle diagnostics, remote fleet management and machine-to-machine communication. So we see IoT as a key enabler for improved performance in hydraulic breaker applications.

Do you face any challenges concerning the adoption of technologies in hydraulic breakers?

A key challenge we face in technology adoption for hydraulic breakers is the crowded market, saturated with low-cost, low-value suppliers. With so many inferior products on the market it can be difficult to stand out when you are offering a high quality alternative. Customers that do invest in Volvo CE hydraulic breakers get to enjoy a range of benefits, including better fuel efficiency and productivity, as well as a prolonged product lifespan.

What are the solutions offered to cope with it?

Keeping the costs of our products down is an important way that we make use of technology at Volvo CE. With customers demanding value for money, we focus on features that customers value the most while finding new ways to improve our production process for cost savings. In this way, Volvo CE can compete with others on value while delivering product features that offer better performance, easier use and more impressive results. At the same time, we work with our dealers and partners to educate our customers on the benefits of new technologies that differentiate our products from our lower-cost competitors.
