How is the company looking at leveraging this opportunity at Excon for business growth?

The Excon expo has always provided us the platform to showcase our state-of-the-art solutions for the construction equipment industry, which are built on the brand promise of dependability and innovation. This also helps Cummins India act as a propeller towards the adoption of new technologies.  It has also been a great medium to stay updated with the latest trends and advancements happening across the overall ecosystem of the industry. EXCON is also a great forum to meet and connect with potential customers as well as end-users to showcase our strengths, establish trust, and build long-lasting partnerships. These interactions have supported us to capture diverse inputs as well as the latent needs of the users enabling us to improve our products in the long term.

Can you provide insights into the range of products you intend to showcase at Excon 2023?

Cummins constantly endeavors to improve its product performance, which is now a part of its DNA.

As we move towards stringent emission norms, product complexities are increasing in terms of additional electronics and After Treatment systems. Cummins’ objective is to offer simple yet efficient solutions to its customers with better performance and reliability. Our Product range offers CEV BSV-compliant engines with no EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) solution and a Single module After Treatment System (ATS). The Cummins BSV engine offers best-in-class power and torque density in the market, thus helping in engine downsizing which results in better fuel efficiency and lower space claim, helping the OEMs to avoid any major changes on the current range of construction equipment.

Demonstrating its commitment towards a greener future, Cummins will also showcase the Hydrogen Internal Combustion Engine, which is part of the fuel-agnostic platform toward achieving zero-carbon emissions.

The Single-module ATS helps in weight and space claim reduction compared to the old-generation ATS system. Also, the high conversion efficiency helps in eliminating the EGR from the base engine thus reducing complexity.

Our products are backed by the assurance of nationwide aftermarket support on Genuine Cummins Parts which will be on display along with an extensive service support network that offers a complete range of service needs such as engine health checks, maintenance services, repair services, and hassle-free Cummins Warranty administration.

How do you look at your company’s involvement in the smart manufacturing of your products used in construction equipment?

The Indian Construction Equipment (CE) industry is headed for exciting times with the influx of technological advancements such as digital technologies, the Internet of Things (IoT), and CEVs with alternate fuels, leading to a new era of sustainable growth. Other technological trends include telematics, advanced electronic controls, and additional safety features for CEVs on par with global standards.

Cummins has been adopting various technological advancements to improve efficiency, address sustainability concerns, and reduce environmental impact. Industry 4.0 encompasses a range of digital technologies that enable automation, connectivity, and intelligent decision-making. These technologies offer valuable tools that help manufacturers optimize production efficiency, minimize energy consumption, and reduce waste by utilizing data-driven insights.

Robotics and 3D printing are also driving innovation, efficiency, and sustainability. By implementing robotics and automation, the industry has experienced improved efficiency and productivity. This has resulted in a reduction in production time, an increase in accuracy, and an improvement in overall quality control. The 3D printing technology allows for the rapid development of parts and components, helping streamline the manufacturing process. Its benefits include the ability to create intricate designs, minimize material waste, and produce lightweight yet durable components.

How do you intend to assess the performance and outcomes of your business for the coming quarters?

India is heavily investing in building and modernizing its infrastructure. With 60% of the USD 2 Trillion National infrastructure pipeline linked to construction activities, we see the growth for construction equipment growing multi-fold. This has set the sector for a multi-year growth trend.

In sync with the robust growth in the sector, Cummins is further looking to augment its leadership position in the market. With industry growth, we have seen new global players have entered India. Cummins with its global presence has existing relationships with most of the global players. With Cummins’s strong India manufacturing base, we are enabling such companies to participate in India’s market growth and make in India initiative by offering local solutions.  Further Cummins has extensive experience with future emissions and has invested in future technologies. As India adopts these regulations and newer technologies, we are looking to further gain a share of the market.

What is your perspective on the anticipated market dynamics in the sector you are in?

Focus on productivity, adoption of digital solutions, and addressing climate are the key three trends that will shape the future requirements of the construction equipment industry.

Government focus on rapidly developing infrastructure, is driving need for timely execution of the projects. The same is reflected in the timebound approvals and incentives for early completion of projects. To enable the same, efficient construction equipment with adequate power and reliability is required to ensure maximum productivity. While the higher power density engines, matched with the suitable drivelines offer adequate power for equipment, telematics enables digital solutions will ensure adequate tracking, uptime, and reliability of the products thereby delivering productivity.

With growing concerns around pollution and climate change, there is a need for tighter emission norms and a shift towards lower and zero-carbon fuels and technologies.
