How do you look at the possibilities improving for OEMs in the CE  industry as the Sagarmala project is set to promote port-led direct and indirect development?

With Sagarmala Project, the Government is aiming to improve port connectivity to and from major ports of the country. Under the projects, the Government plans an estimated investment of more 6 lacs crores.  Whenever new projects are announced/ executed, it leads to major growth in demand for Construction equipment. The projects would require huge number of construction and  material handling equipment. The project would also require large quantity of construction materials such as aggregate and sand which in turn leads to increase in demand for crushing and washing equipment.

What are your major contributions in the Sagarmala project? Which of your equipment are employed in the Sagarmala project?

We have supplied crushing plants to customer/retail crusher owners who are supplying aggregates to the contractors who are executing the projects. We have supplied sand manufacturing and washing plants which cater to demand for good quality sand. We utilize a unique sand manufacturing process which not only produces high volume of sand but also generates less ultra fines which in turn results lesser wastage or sludge production.

With heavy increase in expenditure for infrastructure development through Sagarmala project, how do you think you are going to utilize the opportunity?

With heavy investment on the projects, the Government is aiming at long and sustainable infrastructure development in a short span of time which would demand for durable and reliable product and processes. At Terex MPS, we are more focused on providing solutions to customer facing crushing and washing challenges. Our products and solutions are known for quality world wide. We would be looking forward to capitalize on demand for crushing and washing needs of executing contractors and aggregate supplier for the project.

Last mile connectivity is crucial. How do you assess the challenges in the Sagarmala project in terms of construction equipment?

Sagarmala is a prestigious infrastructure project and in order to finish the projects as per the deadline, it would require mobilization of lots of equipment. The current supply chain delays and rising cost of fuel , raw material would be major challenges in order to meet the demand.

What are your suggestions that need to be incorporated by the government to ensure not just the success of the programme, but also growth for the CE manufacturers?

Execution is the key for a successful project. Government should look into timely clearance of statutory approvals from local authority & timely release of payment to the operating contractors. Any Contractor can invest in equipment & machinery if they believe that they would finish the project on or before deadline and save on their cost. Also Government should have disqualification criteria if the bidder is much below the estimated cost, this would deter a contractor to bid too low and compromise on quality of execution.
