How are skill development initiatives progressing in the country for equipment operators? What is the support from the government in operator training/skill development?
There are a number of skill development initiatives in the country as everyone has understood the importance of training people. The government is doing a lot, but it is necessary for the corporate sector also to do its bit in this regard.
How is the scarcity of skilled operators affecting the prospects of the construction equipment market?
If you look at the number of machines entering the market every month, we will get a clear picture of the enormity of the enormity of the task at hand. One of the clear takeaways from these numbers is that it is imperative to start increasing the number of women to operate construction machinery. There are mines in Kalimantan in Borneo where the entire mine has large dump trucks 100 to 240 tonne, all operated by women. Without this, it may not be possible to find enough operators.
How are the operator-training initiatives progressing at the company?
At Arx, we have a set of Master operators who will visit the customer sites and settle the operator driver till they are comfortable with the machines. We plan to start a training school for operators in the near future for Graders, Drills and Fork Lifts.
What are the latest technologies used in the operator training programme?
At Arx, we don’t need simulators as we have actual prototypes available to run the machine. This gives the operator a real feel of the machine. We also make them familiar with the machine building process so that they can do primary troubleshooting themselves.
What are your future plans for operator training activities?
We are expanding our facilities shortly and the operator training setup will be part of it. We plan to do an all-round training of operators for various types of machines we make. This will also include soft skills training, maintenance training and log book and basic letter writing skills.
