How do you look at your company’s involvement in smart manufacturing of machines or your vision for the future in terms of AI, Automation, IoT, and Robotics etc.?

Liebherr-Werk Ehingen GmbH is making itself fit for the future. The company is investing a sum in the high two-figure millions to make its internal processes future proof. The WeLog Project short for “Plant development logistics” includes building work at the Ehingen site, the restructuring of the material flows, a new building for the Repair Centre South Germany in the Ehingen suburb of Berg and the introduction of a new ERP system. This major project is scheduled for conclusion in 2024. In terms of IoT, all the Liebherr cranes being manufactured and delivered from our Ehingen, Germany factory are equipped with future ready remote diagnostics module.

What do you consider the most critical smart manufacturing technologies for the construction equipment industry, and why?

Liebherr-Werk Ehingen is the most modern crane production plant in the world. We believe that the most critical manufacturing technology involves precision in the assembly of every single small or large component. Hence, the final assembly of LTM mobile cranes is done in a special crane production hall consisting of Robot aided calibration and positioning. This helps in building renowned high quality of mobile and crawler cranes. Also, new technologies and materials are tested from time to time to produce the very highest quality.

With the upcoming and ongoing infrastructure and construction opportunities, how do you intend to assess the performance and outcomes of your business for the coming quarters?

With the record huge outlay of Budget in the Infrastructure sector by Government of India, the construction equipment industry is expected to grow many folds to cater to the requirement of this growing industry. We have been delivering our state of the art cranes to the Indian market since many years of our existence. Many companies involved in the Construction sector have expressed interest into procuring our Equipments due to its excellent build quality and almost nil breakdowns in well maintained machines. Machines availability plays a major role in on time completion of a project. In the coming quarters we plan to cater to our existing customers by supplying them required spare parts for healthy operation of their machines and supply new cranes from our existing orders.

What is your perspective on the anticipated market dynamics in the equipment sector?

We believe that Quality and Safety will drive the construction equipment market in the coming years. The buyers of cranes are slowly realising that business growth through compromising the quality and worksite safety is only temporary. The goal of Liebherr-Werk Ehingen is to set benchmarks with regards to quality, functionality and safety and to ensure high equipment availability in use for our customers. Hence, our plant invests heavily in research and development to ensure this is met.
