What kind of construction equipment operator training and skilling is provided by your company?
We offer training for Crushing, Screening, Washing, Material Handling equipment, Pick and Carry, and Rough Terrain cranes. The training covers essential topics such as basic operations, scheduled maintenance, best practices, and safety guidelines for operators and their surroundings. It includes instruction on Mechanics, Hydraulics, Engines, and Electricals related to this equipment for routine operations.
How is the operator training program structured?
The operator training program is thoughtfully structured to provide a comprehensive learning experience. It comprises a balanced blend of classroom-based instruction and immersive Hands-On training at our world-class manufacturing facility at Hosur.
In the classroom, trainees benefit from engaging sessions enhanced by advanced AR/VR training aids. These innovative tools create a more immersive and spatially rich learning environment, facilitating a deeper understanding of the equipment and its operations.
The Hands-On training component is particularly valued by operators, as it allows them to physically interact with the equipment, gaining practical experience and a tangible feel for its functionalities. This hands-on approach has been met with great enthusiasm and positive feedback from participants.
Operators undergo a thorough evaluation process, and a certification. Our structured training program aims to equip operators with the necessary skills and knowledge to excel in their roles and prioritize safety in their daily operations.
What specific topics are covered in the operator training program like equipment operation and controls, safety procedures and protocols, preventive maintenance etc.?
In our operator training program, safety is our top priority, guided by our Motto of “Work Safe and Home Safe.” We have carefully designed a comprehensive curriculum that covers essential topics to ensure the safety of operators, their surroundings, and the equipment itself.
To begin, we provide in-depth training on equipment operation and controls, equipping trainees with a thorough understanding of how to operate the machinery both safely and efficiently. This includes learning about operating limits, control mechanisms, and fail-safe features, which are critical for smooth and secure operations. Safety procedures and protocols hold significant importance in our training. We dedicate time to educate participants on Lockout and Tagout procedures, underscoring the significance of isolating and securing equipment during maintenance or repair work. Moreover, we instill a heightened sense of hazard awareness, teaching operators to identify potential risks in their working environment, creating a safer workplace for everyone.
Additionally, our training program covers Normal Operational procedures, providing step-by-step guidelines for operating the equipment under regular conditions. This ensures that operators have a clear understanding of the proper procedures to follow in various scenarios.
How do you assess the effectiveness of your operator training programs?
We evaluate the candidate’s knowledge through a preassessment test at the beginning of the training program. This assessment helps the trainer to identify the focus areas for the group as well as Individuals. Upon the conclusion of the training, all participants undergo a comprehensive evaluation to assess their acquired knowledge and skills. The results of the evaluation before and after is used to gain insights on the effectiveness of these trainings and helps the trainer to tailor the future training. Further a formatted feedback by participants is gathered to assess any gaps for future trainings.
How does your company provide periodic training courses for experienced operators?
At our company, we offer periodic training courses tailored for experienced operators and maintenance professionals. Our approach involves providing level-based training to both dealers and customers, ensuring that each individual receives targeted instruction based on their proficiency and prior experience.
For the advanced modules of training, participants must demonstrate proficiency gained through previous training and hands-on experience. This qualification process ensures that the training is appropriately challenging and relevant for each individual’s skill level.
The training progression is carefully structured, starting with basic operations and gradually advancing to cover scheduled maintenance, trouble-shooting techniques, and periodic overhauls. This sequential approach allows operators and maintenance professionals to build upon their existing knowledge and skills, enabling them to handle more complex tasks with confidence.
How do you envision the future of operator training in the CE manufacturing industry? Are there any specific areas your company plans to focus on in the coming years?
We foresee operator trainings through AR/VR for better immersive trainings.
Training at remote locations can be facilitated by availability of improved connectivity through 5G etc. There is an excellent opportunity to integrate training directly into HMI screens and update content over the air. Presently, our dealer engineers have access to web-based modular content for troubleshooting and repairs. In the future, we envision making this content available to operators as well, accessible through their equipment’s HMI screens.
Trainings Safety of Man, Machine and Environment would be future focus areas of the industry and we pride ourselves in taking the lead.
Are there any opportunities for improvement or untapped areas in operator skilling that you believe could benefit the CE manufacturing industry?
Operators often take on maintenance responsibilities at many job sites, highlighting the need to enhance their basic skills. Introducing modules on Battery Maintenance, Lubricating Oil Awareness, checking drive belt tension, Basic Electrical troubleshooting, Understanding Hydraulic and Electric circuits, etc., would significantly boost operator efficiency for equipment fleet owners. Collaborating with industry bodies to develop and standardize these modules would be beneficial. Operators of construction equipment are to be recognised a Nation Builders and the industry bodies should come together to make their contributions recognised in the larger public domain.
