Excerpts from the interview…
Site optimization, especially through big data seems to be a major trend in the global mining space. L&T, being a major player in this space, how do you assess the potential for the same in the mining sector?
With greater focus – like never before – to optimize the ‘cost per tonne’ of mineral mined, big data analytics is playing a crucial role in site and cost optimization. This trend is fast gathering pace, wherein, the data collection, analysis and MIS reports shall become an integrated part of the overall mining activity. At L&T and Komatsu, we are already using various software like Optimum Fleet Recommendation (OFR), Real-time display analysis (RealDisp) etc that have proved to be of immense value to our customers.
What contributory role L&T is playing in India, especially through its product and support solutions?
Komatsu and L&T are totally committed to supplying high-quality and reliable equipment in the Indian market, which meets the prevailing emission norms. For example: The high performance 60T Komatsu dump truck being offered for Indian market conforms to Tier-3 emission norms.
Could you please elaborate on current after-market support trends based on the changing requirement of clients? How geared up is L&T in this space?
For mining projects, after-market support is a key differentiator as it ensures high equipment uptime, better utilization, timely maintenance, proper and periodic training etc. L&T has laid a lot of emphasis and has a pan-India network of service workshops for equipment support and overhaul activity. Recently, we opened our 6th service workshop at Singrauli, which is a major coal-mining hub with a strong presence of Komatsu large size equipment.
What is the range of solutions offered by L&T in mining & quarrying sector? And also tell us the product and technology trends in that range?
L&T offers a very comprehensive range of mining equipment through our principals, Komatsu (Japan) and Scania (Sweden). From Komatsu, we are offering a wide range of dump trucks, hydraulic excavators, crawler dozers, wheel loaders, motor graders, wheel dozers etc. From Scania, we offer mining tippers for deployment in the mid-mining operations. With such an extensive range, L&T is truly a ‘one-stop-shop’ for a major range of mining equipment.
What will be the impact of large and long term MDO contracts?
